Windwalker Real Estate Donates Nantucket Bay Scallops to The Homestead

Nantucket Bay Scallop

Family scalloping season opened last week on Nantucket with great prospects for a  plentiful crop. Known for their sweet, tender taste, Nantucket Bay Scallops are a delicacy and highly sought-after during the fall and winter seasons. On our beautiful island, family scalloping season opens a month ahead of the commercial scalloping season.

In the spirit of giving back to the Nantucket community, the Windwalker Real Estate team made a commitment  to “team scalloping” and sending the catch to elderly housing on the island. Last Friday was one of those “bluebird” days with warm temperatures and sunshine, making the perfect backdrop for the team to set out for low tide in Madaket on the first of their three “team scalloping” dates.

Each of the team members donated their catch, making it possible to deliver 15 lbs of shucked scallops to The Homestead, a private non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to older adults on Nantucket.  The team had a great time and what could be better than treating our elderly Nantucket residents to fresh bay scallops!

The Cisco Bike Path Churns Down Hummock Pond Road!

Construction on the long awaited and much needed Cisco Bike Path on Nantucket is underway. Large orange barrels line the side of the road and heavy brush cutting equipment has begun to cut the path along the east side of Hummock Pond Road. A clear path can be seen from Cisco Beach to Bartlett’s Farm and just beyond.

Visitors to the Cisco area of Nantucket can be seen each summer riding their bikes to Cisco’s beautiful beaches and it is not rare to see a biker with a surf board in one hand and the handle bars in the other or a group of friends heading over to Bartlett’s Farm on their bikes for a pre-beach picnic or to Cisco Brewery after the beach for some late afternoon live music and libations in the outdoor courtyard. The new bike path will be a terrific addition to the Cisco neighborhood in Nantucket. We’ll keep you posted on progress!
