Country Living at Surfside

What is so rare as an English cottage on Nantucket?
And what could be a better combination? If you cannot have an ocean view, what could be nicer than a tuckedaway, rose-covered house reminiscent of a Cotswolds’ cottage, but where the sound of the surf comes through the open window?
The home at 35 Boulevarde in Surfside meets local standards for gray shingles and muted trim, but as you approach up the long shell driveway, you cannot help but notice that it is not the usual boxy shape of a standard Nantucket house. The exterior design has a character rare on the island, further accented by the wonderfully laid-out and tended perennial gardens, the stone patio with its low stone wall and the enclosed “kitchen garden.” You truly could be walking up to an English cottage if it were not for the ocean sounds.
